Aloe Vera Pre-poo

Updated: Mar 8, 2024

Having had the faux locs in all summer, my hair was in desperate need of some TLC. After two shampoos and deep conditions, I felt my hair was still not back to its usual springy state.

I’d wanted to do an aloe vera treatment on my hair for a while but I hadn’t been able to find the huge aloe vera leaf in my town. On this particular day however, I feel like having thought so much about this pre-poo, the universe was like, you will find this leaf up the road. Aloe vera has so many health benefits and I often ingest it. Its benefits for the hair include scalp repair because of the proteolytic enzyme it contains. This also helps to reduce itching and repairs dead skin cells. More benefits can be found here.

Now that I had this magical leaf in my hands, purchased for just one small pound…yes people £1, I could not wait to go home and do this pre-poo treatment that Whitney a.k.a Naptural85 has been raving about for ages. By the way, she is my hair idol and I have followed here from the beginning of time. If you’re not following her yet, well you should, trust me, she’ll change your hair life :).

I pretty much followed what she did exactly but used my milk nut bag I make almond milk with and used my Ayumi Bio Active Growth Hair Oil

Let's get on to this pre-shampoo treatment.

Ingredients/Utensils

Instructions

Cut as much of the leaf that will sufficiently coat your hair strands. On a chopping board, slice the prickly sides off and then slice the leaf in half to expose the lovely gel. Scoop the clear gel out and into a pyrex jug.

Place the chunks into the blender with the aloe vera juice and pulse about 5 or 6 times until you get a gooey stringy consistency shown in the video.

Pour the gel into the milk nut bag over the jug and begin to squeeze the bag to release the gel. Do this until you get as much of the gel in the jug, then pour the gel into the applicator bottle.

Application

Coat your hair with the gel in small sections separating the strands and detangling as you go along. When you’re done, apply the oil and twist your hair.

I covered mine with a plastic cap, then a turbie and carried on with my errands. I shampooed and deep conditioned my hair later on that day as normal.

Please comment if you try this pre-poo. I’d like to know your views.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy wash day!
