Avocado Honey Hair & Face Mask

Updated: Mar 13, 2024

Two Sundays ago was one of those well-deserved lazy days which was well overdue. Swimming hadn’t been possible and I was under strict orders to rest as I’d had flu, cold and congestion the previous week culminating in a funny turn on Saturday. Since then I’ve had a headache and earache. One thing that tends to help me with at least the headache is washing my hair. I had no Greek yogurt and I knew the mask would either have banana or avocado as those were lurking about in the kitchen. As my appetite had decreased in that week, I chose to make a hair/face mask with the leftover avocado.

Instructions

I scooped the avocado into my hand blender and added the aloe vera juice to blend. When I got a smooth enough consistency, I popped the contents into a strainer and tapped it to separate the mixture from the bits that would get stuck in between my curls.

I added the lemon, olive oil, coconut oil and honey to the mixture.

Application

My wash day routine is usually the same but the deep conditioning mask changes. I’m  usually a cowash girl with some ACV or bentonite clay when I need squeaky clean hair. Steps below:

  1. Detangle with coconut oil

  2. Rinse (with ACV when I have buildup)

  3. Apply avocado mask to sectioned hair, cover with a plastic cap, wrap with turban and let sit for 30-45 mins. I added the remainder to my face and once it had dried, I had a little power nap 😴.

  4. Rinse product out thoroughly

  5. Apply conditioner

  6. Final rinse

Benefits of this mask

My hair has been suffering lately and breaking. You can see the crown breakage in the picture. Avocados are high in fat and can help hair become softer and more springy. I added the lemon and olive oil because my scalp has been very flaky and sore lately. Coconut oil is also great for that and can stimulate hair growth. The honey you should know by now is a humectant and will suck moisture in from the environment. My hair was back to its normal moisture levels without flakiness just 4days after this mask.

Let me know if you try this mask and how you find it helps you. Have a great day.
