Fabulously Fashionable

Updated: Aug 5, 2024

Today I found myself thinking about what it is that gets people to suddenly be upset when they see others shine.

In the midst of writing this blog post, I was just told that perhaps I don’t have a life by someone who has no clue or concept about me. When I first started working at my job, I was asked “You do know you’re only coming to work right? You don’t have to dress this fancy.” I looked at this individual in confusion wondering why my smart casual attire was bothering her so much. I have always dressed well and loved fabulous items of clothing, even when they are second hand. I always tell people “I wear the clothes”, because a lot of people think that things need to be expensive for them to look good. Two other incidents happened this week that made me realise that regardless of what I do, people seem to have a jealous countenance around me.

I am including a few throwback pics from an attire I wore on Bank Holiday Monday when I hung out with positive minded ladies. I hope you like it.

Earrings: Aldo

Clutch & Headwrap: Thrifted

Top: Zara

Jeans: Mango

Hair Clip-Ins: HeyCurls

There was a time when I felt like I needed to defend who I am but today I just felt tired. Tired of having to hear ignorant comments at my place of work. Tired of having to make fools understand my joy. Tired of explaining anything to anyone. Tired of having people around who are too afraid to say how they really feel about me without being unnecessarily rude. Tired of having to deal with people not considerate enough of others. Tired of those people who sense your contagious effervescence, so they try to dilute it with their venom. Tired of those who always want to have their way in your life instead of focusing on their own. Because I am tired, I have chosen to just not react now and continue to be my most authentic bubbly self.

If I intimidate you, shut your eyes.

At the crux of it all, I have grown a lot in the last year. This girl keeps moving forward, keeps cycling onwards and as I do so, I am leaving behind all those who do not wish me well in life.

Your aura is all it takes to upset some people so never stop being you.
